Biography and Reviews

Steven John Birks is a singer-songwriter, guitarist and harmonica player from Warwickshire, England. Inspired by greats such as Neil Young, Steve Earle and Johnny Cash, his raw voice and often simple but effective songs combine to create his organic rootsy sound.

Birks has self-produced and independently released two albums to date (Long Time Comin’ Round 2018 and Along The Tracks 2021). His songs have been played by Blues and Roots radio, BBC Music introducing, Valley FM in Australia and in 2021 “Along The Tracks” was included in Fatea Magazines showcase compilation album entited “Elegy”.

Armed with just an acoustic guitar and a case of harmonicas, appearances at the BugJam, Foxton locks festival and the Stratford river festival, as well as support slots for Ash, Mark Morriss (Bluetones), Dodgy and the Folly Brothers, has definitely earned Birks’s place as one to watch on the UK’s roots / Americana scene.

There was a time when a voice, a guitar and a harmonica holder were more common than they are these days as youngsters everywhere emulated the early days of Bob Dylan. Rarely, however did they have a voice which at times could be mistaken for that early Dylan sound.
