Biography

Steven John Birks is a singer-songwriter, guitarist and harmonica player from the heart of England, Warwickshire. His honest approach, raw voice and often simple but effective arrangments combine to create his organic rootsy sound.

Birks has recorded, mixed, mastered and played all the instruments on both of his albums (Long Time Comin’ Round 2018 and Along The Tracks 2021). His songs have gone onto be played by multiple radio stations including Blues and Roots radio, BBC Music introducing, Valley FM in Australia and in 2021 “Along The Tracks” was included in Fatea Magazines showcase compilation album entited “Elegy”.

He has played relentlessly all over the UK, with appearances at the BugJam, Foxton locks festival and the Stratford river festival, as well as support slots for Ash, Mark Chadwick (Levellers), Mark Morriss (Bluetones) and Dodgy. Armed with just an acoustic guitar, a box of harmonicas and a book of songs, Birks has definitely earned his place as one to watch on the UK’s roots / Americana scene.
